Who is William Shakespeare:

William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in Stratford-Upon-Avon. 23rd April is his birthday. William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright and an actor. William Shakespeare is also known as the national poet of England. He is considered as the greatest dramatist of all time.

He was an important member of the King’s men's company of theatrical plays. Shakespeare's plays are most of his legacy, but his poems are still being loved by the people all across the world. The writings of Shakespeare capture a big range of human’s emotion, and his lovers still celebrate his birthday.

William Shakespeare’s family and childhood:

William Shakespeare's father's name was John Shakespeare, who married his mother, Mary Arden. They both had eight children. The first two daughters died as infants, and the third was William. So, he became the eldest child. 

John Shakespeare sent William Shakespeare to the local Grammar school. William Shakespeare lived with his family until he turned eighteen. At the age of eighteen, William married Anne Hathaway, who was 26. Anne was already pregnant at the marriage ceremony. William and Anne had three children together. Their first daughter was Susanna who was born six months after their marriage. They also had two twins, Hamnet and Judith, but Hamnet died when he was 11 years old.

Shakespeare’s lost years:

There are seven in the Shakespeare’s life from which no record exists. This is the time between the birth of his two twins from 1585 to 1592. One possibility is that he might have been working as an assistant schoolmaster in Lancashire.

In the mid or late 1580s, he arrived in London. He worked as a horse-attendant at some of London’s finest theaters. The career of William Shakespeare started in London. During his time in London, Shakespeare wrote long poems include ‘Venus and Adoince’ and ‘The rape of Lucrece’. These were written in 1593-94. 


Career of William Shakespeare:

Shakespeare was a regular dramatist of The lord chamberlain’s Men company. They used to produce two dramas a year for almost 20 years. 

William remained with these companies throughout his lives. During his time in this company, he wrote many famous plays such as The Macbeth, The Winter’s Tale and the Tempest.

Shakespeare by the time of 1592, earned a living as an actor and a playwright, he would probably have produced several plays. Early in his career, Shakespeare became able to grab the attention of Henry Wriothesley, the earl of Southampton, to whom he dedicated the poems mentioned above.  

By the time of 1597, Shakespeare was able to write 15 of his total plays. In 1599, Shakespeare and his business partner built their own theater and name it as “Globe theater”.

Shakespeare's works include 38 plays, 154 sonnets, 2 narrative poems and many kinds of other poems. The original manuscripts of the plays written by Shakespeare do not exist in today times.

William Shakespeare’s plays:

Shakespeare wrote about 37 of his plays throughout his life. The theme of his plays were revolving about histories, tragedies and comedies.

Shakespeare also wrote many comedies during his early period: the whimsical A Midsummer Night's Dream, the wit and wordplay of Much Ado About Nothing and the charming As You Like It and Twelfth Night.

Other plays of Shakespeare before 17th century include The comedy of errors, The gentlemen of Verona, the taming of the shrew, love’s labor’s lost and the king john.

The plays of Shakespeare have spawned countless adaptations across multiple cultures and genres. Various iterations of the complete work of William Shakespeare have compiled his writings and works, which include his poems, plays and sonnets. No doubt that William Shakespeare is one of the iconic figures in English literature.

Shakespeare's home in Stratford:

Shakespeare did most of his works in London. The London theaters made him wealthy and by 1597, he was able to purchase the largest house in the Stratford-upon-Avon. The professional career of William’s life was mainly in London, but he maintained some close links with his hometown.  

On the death of Shakespeare’s father, he inherited the old family house in Henley’s street. Shakespeare made proper investments in Stratford, including the purchase of 107 acres of land in 1601. 

Death of Shakespeare:

Due to syphilis and fever, Shakespeare died on 23rd April in 1616. At the time of death, Shakespeare age was 52.  The grave of Shakespeare is in the sanctuary of the Parish church.
